Community Gesture of Kindness with Back to School Supplies for Elementary Students

Today, Comox Valley Schools was the grateful recipients of a wonderful community gesture. Jiffy Lube in partnership with Staples Canada delivered 100 student backpacks to the Board Office.

Kevin Wilson, Owner/Operator Jiffy Lube Courtenay and Sharon Mischook, General Manager Staples Courtenay, filled the backpacks with an assortment of school supplies with the help of members from the Comox Rotary Club. The backpacks will be distributed among the district’s 15 elementary schools.

Wilson explained the idea was born from a program he initiated while operating another business in Grande Prairie. He wanted to do the same in this community so he approached Staples and the school district.

Each year Staples Canada runs its own similar Back to School initiatives such as a school supply drive to raise funds to assist families, so Mischook was more than delighted to join forces with Jiffy Lube.

When approached by Jiffy Lube, Geoff Manning, Director of Instruction K-12 was ecstatic.

“We have lots of kids in our community that can use this,” explained Manning. “This is a very worthwhile endeavour for our students. We are just thrilled to have it.”
