Comox Valley Schools Rank High in Skills Canada BC Competition

Secondary students in the Comox Valley scored impressive results at a provincial level competition winning medals for their skills in trades and technology.

Skills Canada Provincial Competition held in Abbotsford 17 April brought together more than 600 student competitors from across B.C. in diverse skills and technology fields to compete in 58 categories such as welding, baking, graphic design, electronics, and robotics.

A young leader in Truth and Reconciliation named a regional honouree

A Brooklyn Elementary Grade 7 student received surprising news about her artwork submission into the Imagine a Canada competition. As a result of her compelling story of why she demonstrates leadership in reconciliation, Dani Lewis was selected as a regional honouree for the Imagine a Canada National Arts and Leadership Initiative through the University of Manitoba.

Strategic Planning Consultation

There is plenty of space still available for the second public consultation session on the strategic plan development. As part of the development of a new strategic plan, we review our past plan and seek feedback from our education partners and the community (parent/guardians, students, staff and the general public). Registration is required and limited to 25 participants. If demand is high, additional sessions will be scheduled.

A Unique Outdoor Education and Adventure Experience on Hornby Island Returns

Following the incredibly successful 2018 inaugural camp, Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Center in partnership with Ocean Wise and Navigate NIDES (Comox Valley Schools - School District 71) are offering another exciting outdoor education experience.

The Ocean Literacy and Leadership Camp is an educational retreat for young women ages 15 to 18, taking place from July 14 to 19 at Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Centre.

Strategic Planning Survey

Comox Valley Schools is currently creating a strategic plan for the 2019 – 2023 school years. In our development of a new strategic plan, we review our past strategic plan as well as seek consultation from our education partners and members of the community (parent/guardians, students, staff, and the general public). This survey is the first part of the consultation process. Please take the time to complete a few questions and share your valuable input. The survey will be open until April 24th.

Valley Teams excel at Destination Imagination

Eleven teams representing six Comox Valley schools competed in the annual Provincial Destination Imagination (DI) Tournament 6 April in Vancouver.
Two G.P. Vanier teams took home provincial champion titles, including DInamic for the Engineering Challenge at the secondary level and Miracle Worms in the Improvisation Challenge, secondary level.

Comox Valley Schools receives additional $1.8 million from Ministry

Valley schools will receive new funding for minor capital projects from the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry made the announcement recently in response to the school district’s 2019/20 Annual Five-Year Capital Plan submission.
Royston Elementary, Mark R. Isfeld Secondary, Highland Secondary, and Cumberland Community School are the recipients of new funds for minor capital priority projects in the district.
