September is a Time for Safe Driving Reminders Near School Zones

With school back in session, September is a good month for our students to remind motorists throughout the Comox Valley to use extra caution while driving in school zones.

The increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic in school zones creates more congestion on roadways which requires drivers to be more vigilant.

Extended Gradual Entry to Kindergarten Proves Successful

Young children starting school for the first time are easing into their new lifestyle as a student thanks to a pilot program designed to make the transition far easier for toddlers and parents.

The Welcome to Kindergarten (WTK) Gradual Entry program provides a seamless transition for kindergarten families as they enter the school and kindergarten classroom at the start of the school year. Read how it worked for Ecole Robb Road.

A Pathway of Hope Comes to District Schools

Students will soon have a clearer, easier-to-understand path to mental health and substance use services. These new initiatives were announced by B.C. Ministers Judy Darcy and Rob Fleming September 12 at G.P. Vanier Secondary.
Comox Valley Schools becomes the second in the province among five selected to receive the program and funding.

Staff Cast: A New Way to Tell the District Story

Comox Valley Schools has joined the podcast generation and created a channel for the community to tune in and hear stories from the inside.
The school district podcast, titled Staff Cast, is a series of episodes of 3 to 5-minute duration featuring an employee share a story about their role in the district, an accomplishment or initiative or, simply, why they enjoy their job so much.

Starting the School Year Off Strong

With an increase in student registration coupled with a new Strategic Priorities Plan, the school district is starting the 2019/20 school year off on a strong footing.
The school district will see an increase in enrollment at the elementary and secondary level. As projected and consistent with the population growth in the Valley, student enrollment continues to grow with approximately 600 students registered for kindergarten and close to 8500 students district-wide.

School District joins RCMP Safe Place Program

All Comox Valley Schools are now a designated Safe Place location as part of the recently launched RCMP program that partners with local businesses to provide a secure location for victims or witnesses of crimes involving the LGBTQ community.

Strategic Plan 2019 - 2023

At the last regular public board meeting of the year, June 25th, trustees unanimously accepted the 2019 - 2023 Strategic Plan. Board Chair Janice Caton acknowledged the hard work of her trustees and staff and the contribution of the community to help set the priorities that will guide the District for the next four years.
