Work2Wellness Milestone Celebration

The Work2Wellness (W2W) Milestone Celebration 2018 held June 20th at the Florence Filberg Centre brought together more than 140 district employees for an evening of mingling. Fire-Pit Pavilion soon to be built on Hornby Island to enrich a historical gathering place

Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Society has joined forces with the Timber Framers Guild for a major build project that will enhance the esthetics and extend the use of a popular education and training center located on beautiful Hornby Island. ​

Touted as the jewel of the Pacific, the Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Centre (TBOEC) will soon have a fire-pit pavilion erected on its grounds, replacing the current open pit.

Former staff will gather at G.P. Vanier on Oct. 20 for the school’s 50th birthday

A group of retired staff members from G.P. Vanier Secondary is inviting anyone who worked at the school from its opening in 1968 to the present to attend a 50-year reunion party on Oct. 20.

All of the nearly 800 teachers, administrators, education assistants, office staff, and custodians who were employed at Vanier over its first 50 years are welcome to attend the school’s golden anniversary.

Students of district's first construction trades class get the best hands on experience

The Construction Trades Sampler class, led by Troy Dakiniewich, G.P. Vanier Secondary Construction Teacher, recently accomplished a major build project in Royston under the guidance of master timber framers Randy Churchill and Martin Stutz. On June 6, after working steadily for seven days in May, 15 students of the class of 16 ​erected a new timber framed barbeque shelter.

At Sandwick Technical School located on Rennison Road, a lot of ​creativity goes on. Sometimes unnoticed until May and June when every Grade 7 class  throughout  Comox Valley Schools cycles through, trying up to eight trades - Carpentry, Concrete, Electrical, Plumbing, Drywal​l, Painting, Mechanics and Cooking.
