Construction Trade Sampler

 

Course description:

Construction Trade Sampler is a cohort group immersion into the many careers related to the construction industry. Students will explore interested career areas around the following trades: 
Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Roofing, Drywall, Flooring, Siding, Concrete and Painting. The course is mainly “hands on” by building skills, knowledge and the right attitude that employers are looking for. There will be a focus on ITA essential skills, field trips to businesses that employ trades people, project building in the shop, and practical experiences with North  Island College Trades instructors. Drafting and math will be interspersed with day to day learning. 
This course is open to all grade 11 and 12 students in the Comox Valley. Grade 10 students may be accepted.
 

Program outline:

Location: G.P Vanier School/ Sandwick Technical School
Semester program: full time for 2nd semester. February to June
Monday to Thursday: 9:00 am to 3:30 pm
Work Experience placement on Fridays.
 
Students will receive the following course credits:
Total credits earned 20
Trade Sampler TSTN12A, TSTN12B, TSTN12C
Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 11 or 12
Work Experience 12A
 
Application: See your Work Experience office to be put on list and receive a district application. Space is limited to 16 students.
