font-size: 12pt;\">STEP is a program that introduces students to th<\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">e construction trades<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"placeholder-tinymce-text\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0industry through hands on experiences in a realistic work environment.\u00a0 \u00a0Students will gain experience in various construction trades industries such as: Electrical, Carpentry, Cooking, and, Welding.\u00a0 Throughout the program(s) students will work towards certifications that are needed to work in the construction trades industry <a href=\"https:\/\/skillsready.ca\/resources\/\">Skills Ready BC<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>What students bring each day<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Lunch<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Appropriate dress for work (clothes you do not mind getting dirty)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Positive attitude &amp; work ethic<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0Students will attend the program and gain skills and knowledge from 4 different trades that they can take with them into thier place of work and\/or use to help guide them with thier next steps in their educational pathway.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">After STEP, students can choose to apply to a Sampler Program or explore Youth Train in Trades options at North Island College.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; This takes place over two half days with additioanl time to practice if desired.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Please complete the application form, on the right, and submit to your Career Office and they will support you securing your dates.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h5><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>WHIMIS<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Twice a year students may sign up to attend Sandwick school to attain their WHIMIS certification. Students register at their home school in the Careers departmen. Studnets will be provided with two afternoon sessions, 1:00pm- 3:00pm where they will attend Sandwick School and gain a WHIMIS certificate if they have learned the materials and pass the exam.
