First, it exposes elementary students to trades and what that feels like. Secondly, it allows grade 10 to 12 students to experience a trade in greater depth, as they are\u00a0 teaching it to the younger students. This experience often helps the &#8220;leaders&#8221;\u00a0 to see if they would like to apply for a Train and Trade program.\u200b\u200b\u200b\u00a0 The trades the students will experience are:<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"placeholder-tinymce-text\">\n<ul>\n<li>Carpentry<\/li>\n<li>Plumbing<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/23.files.edl.io\/1791\/19\/09\/18\/132813-43a73385-6906-4546-89c5-98d3e3802594.jpg\" alt=\"Student Focused\" width=\"305\" height=\"202\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Electrical<\/li>\n<li>Drywall<\/li>\n<li>Concrete<\/li>\n<li>Mechanics<\/li>\n<li>Cooking<\/li>\n<li>Work safe practices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"placeholder-tinymce-text\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"placeholder-tinymce-text\"><strong>Structure of the day<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"placeholder-tinymce-text\">The day starts out with the senior leaders arriving at 9am, learning and practicing the station, they are going to work at, and then greet the grade 7 students at 11. After a quick introduction and safety lesson, the students rotate through the different trade\u2019s stations, with the emphasis on getting tools, such as hammers, cordless drills, soldering torch, wrenches, paint brushes, spreaders, in the hands of the students.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page-block page-block-files \">\n<ul class=\"page-block-file attachment-list\">\n<li Sheet<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>\u200b\u200bLeaders arrive at Sandwick at 9:00am<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www3.sd71.bc.ca\/Programs\/careerprograms\/try-a-trade\/PublishingImages\/Pages\/Student%20Leader%20Material\/leader%20auto.jpg\" alt=\"leader auto.jpg\" width=\"361\" height=\"240\" \/><\/li>\n<li>\u200bIntroduction to event, safety, careers talk, etc<\/li>\n<li>Learn the trade you will be responsible for<\/li>\n<li>Set up the work area for that trade and practice the skill you will teach<\/li>\n<li>Elementary students arrive 11:15am &#8211; 11:30am &#8211; Introductions, safety, career paths, etc<\/li>\n<li>LUNCH &#8211; we provide it for you<\/li>\n<li>Teach elementary students (3 different sessions 30 minutes each) 12:15pm &#8211; 1:45pm<\/li>\n<li>Elementary students leave at 2:00pm<\/li>\n<li>Clean up and finish by 2:30pm<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For all the activities, it is expected that the leaders will take the time to carefully watch and learn from the youtube video\u2019s below, try the skill yourself, and ask Mr Claassen to inspect your work or give you
