As a\u200bn YWT student, you&#8217;ll &#8220;earn while you learn&#8221; and graduate from the YWT program with 16 high-school credits and 480 work-based training hours that count towards your trade credential.<\/p>\n<p><strong>As\u00a0an Youth Work in Trades student you:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>are registered as regular apprentices with SkilledTradesBC (formerly the Industry Training Authority or ITA);<\/li>\n<li>must be paid by the employer at least minimum wage;<\/li>\n<li>you complete\u00a0480 hours and\u00a0earn 16 credits towards graduation;<\/li>\n<li>are potentially eligible for a $1,000 scholarship from the Ministry of Education if you remain in an apprenticeship and accrued 900 hours while you are school aged;<\/li>\n<li>must be working with a journeyman (or SOA) in order for the hours to be valid;<\/li>\n<li>are responsible for finding your\u00a0own employer for this program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>You can apply for an Youth Work in Trades Award if you:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are registered with SkilledTradesBC (formerly the Industry Training Authority or ITA) as a youth apprentice.<\/li>\n<li>Have a Grade 12 Dogwood Diploma or an\u00a0Adult Dogwood Diploma.<\/li>\n<li>Have successfully completed WRK 11A, 11B, 12A and 12B.<\/li>\n<li>Maintained a C+ average or better in your Grade 12 courses.<\/li>\n<li>Have 900+ hours reported to the SkilledTradesBC (formerly the Industry Training Authority or ITA) while still of school age.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here are some helpful resources to get you started:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradestrainingbc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trades Training in BC\u200b<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.itabc.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/docs\/discover\/Youth\/Employer%20Sponsor%20Overview_FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span lang=\"EN\">Why sponsor an apprentice?<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"bc_h2\">$1000 Scholarship Criteria<\/h3>\n<p>Students who are eligible for the Youth Work in Trades Award will automatically be considered and the application process will be sent to them.
