Bruce Cable<\/h4>\n

Concert Choir Adjudicator<\/h6>\n

Bruce studied composition at MacEwan University before earning his education degree from the University of Alberta. After eight years as the Musical Director for St. Albert Children\u2019s Theatre, he embarked on his dream job, teaching choir, musical theatre, and vocal jazz to Grades 7-12 students at Victoria School of the Arts in Edmonton. He dedicated an impressive 25 years to this role, during which he served as the musical director for 23 musicals. In recognition of his significant contributions to education, he was honored with a Prime Minister\u2019s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2017.<\/p>\n

Bruce holds a Master\u2019s degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Miami, where he studied under Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe. His extensive musical background includes singing with Pro Coro Canada, singing in the acappella group VOCE, directing the MacEwan University jazz choir, serving as the assistant conductor for the youth choir Korora, and acting as a Musical Director for the Citadel Theatre\u2019s A Christmas Carol.<\/p>\n

Known for his emphasis on storytelling and bringing the music to life, Bruce is a sought-after choral clinician and educational session presenter. Over the last year, Bruce has adjudicated at several prestigious events, including the Ontario Vocal Festival, Whistler\u2019s Cantando Festival, Edmonton\u2019s Cantando Festival, and the Moose Jaw Band and Choral Festival. Additionally, he led the adult choir at Naramata Music Week in British Columbia, led choral camps in Red Deer and Edmonton, and presented music education sessions at the Saskatchewan Music Conference in Regina.<\/p>\n

Through his varied musical experiences, Bruce emphasizes the importance of music in building community. He values the connections and conversations that arise between conductors and singers, celebrating their shared passion for the arts and its potential to inspire and effect change.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Jeff Weaver<\/h4>\n

Concert Band Adjudicator<\/h6>\n

Jeff Weaver serves as the Director of Bands and Jazz Studies at Oak Bay High School and is also an instructor in Music Education at the University of Victoria. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Victoria and furthered his education with a Master of Arts degree from Sam Houston State University. Jeff is a distinguished recipient of the Premier\u2019s Award for Teaching Excellence in British Columbia.<\/p>\n

Jeff is actively involved in the realm of music education leadership. He presently holds the position of Past President within the Canadian Music Educators\u2019 Association and has previously served as the President of the British Columbia Music Educators\u2019 Association. His dedication to these roles reflects his passion for advancing music education at both regional and national levels.<\/p>\n

Jeff is in demand as adjudicator and clinician adjudicating for the Comox Valley Band Festival, the Victoria Music Festival, Townsite Jazz Festival, qathet Festival of Performing Arts, Comox Valley Festival of the Arts, the Bella Coola Arts Festival, Kamloops Honour Band and guest conducting with ensembles in greater Victoria.<\/p>\n

Jeff believes that all students have the capacity to make music and that schools are complete with strong Fine Arts Performance programs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Jennifer Mann<\/h4>\n

Concert Band Adjudicator<\/h6>\n

Jennifer Mann recently retired as the Director of Bands and Fine Arts Curriculum Leader at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School in Red Deer, Alberta, where she spent the last 23 of her 30+ years as a music educator. Jennifer is a graduate of the University of Calgary where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree (with distinction) and Teacher Certification in Secondary Music Education.<\/p>\n

Jennifer is active as a clinician, guest conductor, and adjudicator, and she is currently serving as the Director of the Red Deer Community Band Society\u2019s Monday Night Advanced Adult Community Band. She is a long-time member of the Alberta Band Association, a lifetime member of Women Band Directors International, and a member of the International Bandmaster Fraternity, Phi Beta Mu. She has presented at Music Conference Alberta, facilitated sessions at the Central Alberta Teachers\u2019 Convention, and she appears in the publication, \u2018Go On, Tell Your Story \u2013 Voices of Women Band Directors\u2019.<\/p>\n

Bands under Jennifer\u2019s direction have consistently received superior ratings and awards at local, provincial, and national festivals. Her concert bands were featured performers at the Canadian Rocky Mountain Music Festival and Music Conference Alberta. Personally, Jennifer was a finalist for an Alberta Education Excellence in Teaching Award in 2011, the recipient of the Alberta Band Association Elkhorn Band Director of the Year Award in 2018, and the recipient of the Keith Mann Most Outstanding Band Director Award at Musicfest Canada in 2023.<\/p>\n

Jennifer has recently become active as a flute player with the Central Alberta Chamber Orchestra and she is also an Arts Education Instructor for pre-service teachers enrolled in the Red Deer Polytechnic School of Education. Jennifer and her husband, Michael (also a recently retired band director), have two wonderful sons, Zachary and Aaron.
