Hello, my name is Annette Blecic , I am one of the Indigenous Support Workers at Queneesh Elementary. My ancestry is Metis Cree and I was born and raised in Edson Alberta. I moved to Vancouver Island 5 years ago. I am also a parent and a grandmother to two amazing boys. It is through these relationships that I understand the need for a calm and quiet place for children to go to.
My role as an Indigenous Support Worker is to increase a sense of belonging, improve academic success, enhance leadership skills for our Indigenous students, and to expand Indigenous awareness for all students. I have set a personal goal this year is to build strong relationships and connections with the children.
Some of the services I provide include:
- Academic, personal, and cultural support for students
- Seventh Generation Club (lunch time group)
- Providing cultural activities and information
- Maintaining liaison with teachers, counsellors, administrators, Aboriginal students and their families, and community agencies as an advocate for Aboriginal students
I feel that I have been giving the amazing opportunity to help our indigenous children succeed. Not only in the academic aspect, but every aspect of life. I cherish my ISW role here at Queneesh. I am looking forward to a successful year working with all of your amazing children.
