My name is Ineke Burritt, our Family ancestry is Interior Salish and comes from TLKemchEEn (Kumsheen) where the rivers meet, Lytton, B.C. in the Nlaka’pamux (Ing-khla-kap-muh) Nation as well as Portuguese, Dutch, English, German and Scottish. I am third generation Victoria born and raised on my mother’s side, my father immigrated from Holland. For the past 15 years my husband and I with our three daughters have called this beautiful unceded traditional territory of the Komox First Nations home. Working in Indigenous Education is a new opportunity after Owning and Operating Learn as You Grow Family ChildCare for the past 17 years where I incorporated Indigenous Culture into my program. I originally set out to become a teacher having completed two years of post secondary education toward my Bachelor of Education.
