One of the Traditional names that I carry is Kwa’kwaxolas, which means ‘Nimble’. This name comes from the House Named Kumugwe, one of the houses of the Gigalgam ‘Walas Kwagul. I grew up on the K’omoks #1 Reserve in Comox with my late Parents Mary Everson (nee Frank) and Wayne Everson. My roots come from the Kwagul of Fort Rupert, The ‘Namgis of Alert Bay, The Puntletz of the Comox Valley, The Satluxw of the Comox Valley, The Ahousaht of Flores Island and The Bigstone Cree Nation of Wabasca.

Growing up so closely to my mother U’magalis (Mary Everson), I have learned many ways of understanding our natural world. The connection that I have to the Traditional, Unceded Puntletz, E’iksan and K’omoks Territories has always been special to me. The languages of Pentl’ach, Ayjuasam and Kwak’wala come from the land and we as the caretakers of the territory also belong to the land. If we take care of the land and water, the water and land will take care of us. Just like our ancestors have since time immemorial.

My connections to community also come from my work experience as a K’omoks First Nation Jr. Guardian Watchman. Being a part of an amazing team who are the eyes and ears of our people.

I am incredibly grateful to be in the position of Indigenous Engagement and Knowledge Specialist within School District 71. This position is important for our Puntletz, E’iksan and K’omoks Community. I am looking to further my connection and understanding of the territories and KFN Students.

["post-5369","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":
["GET
