GENERAL INFORMATION

The Operations Department of The Comox Valley School District (SD71) has four (4) passenger buses available to rent exclusively for SD71 related use (field trips, tournaments, etc.).

The daily rental rate is $175.00. No half-day rates. We Offer X1 free Class 4 practice rental and X1 free Class 4 test rental.

Activity Buses are located at SD71 Operations Office & Maintenance Yard @ 2963 Vanier Drive. High visibility vests are to be worn at all times while in the Maintenance Yard.

Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday from 7:30 to AM to 4:00 PM | Closed on Weekends and Statutory & Civic Holidays. * No Activity Bus rentals in July & August.

We advise that rental request be made at minimum ten (10) days before the requested date of use to allow for ample processing time, as well as time for users to make alternative arrangements if bus availability is an issue.

REQUIREMENTS FOR USE

The Drivers must be pre-approved by the School to transport passengers on behalf of SD71.

The Driver must provide a copy of the following two documents:

Valid Class 4 (minimum) Unrestricted Driver’s Licence; and
Current (within the past year) ICBC Driver’s Abstract.

Must agree to follow bus rules and the comply with Terms & Conditions. Failure of compliance will result in the user’s rental privileges being suspended or revoked. Such action is at the discretion of the Operations Department.

District Activity Bus Terms & Conditions*

1. Conduct and complete the Pre-Trip section of the 'Pre-Trip/Post-Trip Inspection Form' prior to driving the Activity Bus.

A Pre-trip inspection is required for every day the bus is in use.
All trip form(s) must be kept in the Bus for the duration of the trip. Failure to comply can result in a Commercial Vehicle Safety & Enforcement (CVSE) fine.

2. Conduct and complete the Post-Trip section of the 'Pre-Trip/Post-Trip Inspection Form' upon returning the bus to the Maintenance Bus Compound.

If returning after-hours deposit form(s) in the mail slot on the exterior of the Maintenance’s Automotive Shop.

3. The Driver MUST report any damage(s) on the 'Pre-Trip/Post-Trip Inspection Form'. If accrued by the Driver and deemed appropriate, the School will be charged for repairs.

Extent of damages and/or the failure to report may result in the Driver’s bus privileges being revoked for a period and/or indefinitely. Such determination is up to the discretion of the Operation’s Department.

4. Drivers are responsible for paying all fines as a result of use and are obligated to inform the Operation’s Department upon issuance.

5. All toll bridge charges will be invoiced to School.

6. Buses are to be operated on paved roads ONLY.

7. Buses are NOT to be left outside of the Maintenance Bus Compound overnight unless apart of the approved overnight trip.

8. Aisles, exits, and emergency exits must be kept clear at ALL times.

9. The number of passengers carried cannot ever exceed the legal bus capacity.

10. All passengers must be seated and wearing a seat belt at all times.

11. Equipment and luggage must be securely stored.

12. ALL passengers must off-load from the bus while being refueled.

13. In the event of a bus breakdown:

Within the Comox Valley and during operating hours (M-F 7:40 AM to 4:00 PM) call the Operations Department @ 250-338-7475.
Outside the Comox Valley call the nearest repair facility.

14. In the event of an accident:

Follow emergency response procedures; and
Contact your School Principal ASAP who will advise the appropriate School District Officials.

15. Bus MUST be refueled to a full tank on return.

Failure to do so will result in the School being charged the refuel difference

16. Interior of the bus MUST be wiped down, swept, mopped, and emptied of all garbage upon return.

Failure to do so will result in a minimum $30.00 cleaning charge and additional if required.

17. Drivers are to ensure all windows are closed and doors locked when the bus is left unattended and upon return to the Maintenance Bus Compound.

18. A $50 cancellation fee will be applied if the School fails to notify the Maintenance Department the rental is no longer required.
