The Weekly May 11 to May 15 2026
We hope that you are able to celebrate (and be celebrated!) all the important women in your life this Mother’s day. A big thank you to PAC for spoiling all the educators this week. It was much appreciated. We should all be so proud of the grade 4/5 athletes that were able represent Courtenay Elementary at the Vanier Track.
Friday May 15th all SD71 staff will be learning and celebrating Indigenous Brilliance. The purpose of this day is to create space for Staff across the district to deepen their understanding of both local Indigenous knowledge systems and the diverse teachings carried by Indigenous Peoples from many Nations on the Traditional and Unseeded Territory of the K’omoks First nation. As result there will be no school for students that day.
A reminder: Volunteer Criminal Record Check – complete the submission online through the link below: https://justice.gov.bc.ca/criminalrecordcheck

Join for a screening of the CBC short documentary A Special Little Fish (directed by Sonya Lee) followed by an exclusive behind-the-lens talk by local cinematographer (and Lake trail Alumni) Tiare Boyes on how the film was filmed on special equipment in Morrison Creek.
After the screening, President of the Morrison Creek Stream-keepers, Jan Gemmell will offer an engaging talk about the Morrison Creek watershed and the work the volunteer stream-keepers do to restore and protect the urban creek, home to the endemic and fascinating fish, the Morrison Creek Lamprey.
This is a unique opportunity to learn about local conservation efforts, the special fish in your backyard, to ask questions and connect with fellow community members.

Accessible and Parking at Courtenay El.: We only have 2 spaces in the staff lot for accessible parking. If you do not have an accessible pass do not use those spaces. Others need them. We are a community that needs to support each other. Also, please do not to park between the red cones (bus zone) or in the staff portion of the parking lot before or after school. There is a small lot for parents beside the alley, before entering the main staff area.
