Early Years Programs

StrongStart

StrongStart BC is a free, drop-in early learning program for children birth to 5 years old, accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Parents and caregivers attending StrongStart BC centres can expect to participate in organized sessions like story time, in play activities, and in serving a healthy snack.

Parents and caregivers are likely to discover new ways to support their children’s learning at home, and may make valuable connections with others attending the centre.

JumpStart

JumpStart Preschool is a community-based program sponsored by the Comox Valley Child Development Association in partnership with School District #71.

The hours are from 8:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., Monday through Friday.

We believe that children learn through their play experiences. We offer a program that promotes play-based learning with a variety of opportunities to practice literacy skills, numeracy skills, social skills and to build self-confidence.

Community LINK programs

Breakfast and Lunch Club

Ms. Root opens the breakfast club at 8:10 for any students who didn’t get breakfast at home. Kids serve themselves a healthy breakfast while she prepares healthy, fresh lunches for the lunch program.

This program is funded by Community LINK funds and a grant from the Breakfast Club of Canada. We also get regular donations of perishable food from the Comox Valley Food Bank.

Morning Gym and Library

Every morning we open the gym at 8:10 for any kids who need to get some physical activity beore school starts. This exercise promotes blood flow to the brain and helps kids be ready to learn.

The program is supervised by Mrs. Root, an educational advisor, and funded from the school district’s Community LINK program.

After School Programs

We run athletic, fine arts, and garden clubs after school most days. The programs are open to all students, with priority given to students from vulnerable families.

We believe that these programs support individual students by giving them opportunities for building self-esteem and connections with staff and other students.
