Gilakas’la. I am honored and grateful to be an uninvited guest on such beautiful lands and waters. It is my privilege to live, work, and learn on the unceded traditional territories of the K’omoks Firat Nation. The Sahtloot, Sasitla, Ieeksun, and Puntledge. I would like to thank them for the privilege of living on their land and the gift of working with their children.
Taanshi, hello, my name is Jennifer Hilchey, and I am one of the Indigenous Support Workers (ISW) for the 2024-2025 school year at Lake Trail Community School. I was born and raised in Port Alberni and moved to the Comox Valley in 2001. Within recent years, I have learned about my indigenous roots and with an open heart I am embracing my path as a Métis woman. I am a registered member of both the Comox Valley MIKI’SIW chartered community and Metis Nation of British Columbia. My European ancestry is a mix of Irish, Scottish, and English, and my indigenous ancestry is Anishinaabe from Great Lakes region of Canada. I am looking forward to growing and learning beside your children with our incredible staff, knowledge keepers and our community of the Comox Valley. Marsee, thank you.
