Online Learning Community

Gilakas’la! Welcome!

We humbly acknowledge that SD71 (Comox Valley) and Indigenous Education operates on the traditional, Ancestral, unceded territory of the K’ómoks First Nation. Further acknowledging and respecting the unique history, culture, and relationship with the land of the Pentlatch, E’ikʷsən, Sahtloot, and Sasitla peoples who have been here since time immemorial and who are still here. We honour our relationships with all First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples who reside in the territories we serve.

Our online learning students are an important part of our community. Our community consists of K-12 students from all over British Columbia. We work closely in partnership with Navigate NIDES.

We value the diverse needs of all our students in the pursuit of their education. We strive to enhance services for Indigenous students. Providing support for our students needs is founded upon our four goals;

Goal 1: Foster Indigenous students’ sense of belonging, cultural identity, and self-esteem.

Goal 2: Foster academic success of all Indigenous students.

Goal 3: Foster awareness of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit culture /teachings with all students.

Goal 4: Foster Indigenous students’ confidence in leadership.

Our Purpose

We aim to provide support in any way we can to our online learners across British Columbia. Support may include:

  • Storytelling and cultural presentations held online through Zoom.
  • Providing helpful links to useful organizations and websites.
  • Resources and information about identity, language and reconciliation.
  • Occasional mail-outs including activities, resources and important information.
  • Connecting you with appropriate resources to support your study program and personal goals.
  • Providing information and support you would normally obtain from your Indigenous Support Worker if you were learning in a physical school setting.
