Hunilht’ih  Lynn Swift sets’edinh. Hello my name is Lynn Swift. I am from the ¿Esdilagh First Nation which sits on the west and east bank of the Fraser River in Tsilhqot’in territory. I am connected to this area through my grandmother Mary Boyde (Baptiste). On my mothers’ side, my family are from the Tsilhqot’in (Toosey) and Secwepmec (Canoe Creek) First Nations, Scotland, and Ireland. On my father’s side, I am from the Tsilhqot’in (¿Esdilagh), Secwempec (Soda Creek), and Carrier First Nations, Scottish, French and English.

I was born and raised in Williams Lake, BC which sits in the center of the three nations I mentioned above. I am grateful to be a visitor in the K’ómoks First Nation territory for the last 30 years. I moved here with my husband to start my teaching career in 1993.   I started teaching at Brooklyn as a Grade 6 teacher and remained at Brooklyn for 17 years before I moved over to Indigenous Education Department where I have been a curriculum support teacher for 10 years.  My husband and I have raised our 3 children here in the valley with much of our time being outside especially on the mountain and in the trails.

As a teacher I am passionate about helping all students have a sense of belonging, engaging in critical thinking, and incorporating indigenous ways of knowing and being in a holistic way.

Sechanalyagh, Lynn Swift
