NALA’ATSI SCHOOL

About Nala’atsi

Nala’atsi School operates on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the K’ómoks First Nation. We acknowledge and respect the unique history, culture, and relationship with the land that the Pentlatch, E’ikʷsən, Sahtloot, and Sasitla peoples have had since time immemorial and who are still here.

The name Nala’atsi is a Kwak’wala word meaning “Place of the Day”, which was gifted to the school by Andy Everson and his mother Mary Everson.

Nala’atsi is a school for students with Indigenous ancestry in grades 10 to 12. Within our program, you’ll find a caring and compassionate learning environment where relationships, community, and belonging come first. Students are supported in their learning journeys with individualized approaches, opportunities to graduate, and connections to rich cultural activities both within our community and beyond.

You can pick up an admissions package at the Indigenous Education Center (607 Cumberland Rd, Courtenay, BC) Monday–Friday, 9am–3pm. You can also print the Nala’atsi Application Package and drop it off at the Indigenous Education Center when it’s complete.

Please note: Completing an application does not guarantee a spot at Nala’atsi. We often have a wait-list, and while we cannot accept every applicant, we do our best to keep families informed about placement possibilities and timelines.
