Re: School supplies for the 2025-26 school year
Hello CCS families:
For the upcoming 2025-26 school year at CCS, we are moving towards a school-wide school supply system. This means that, instead of parents purchasing individual sets of supplies for their children over the summer, teachers will purchase supplies in bulk to use with their classes, and we will be asking families to reimburse the school (the cost this year will be $50/student). This system has been used by our K-3 teachers for several years with good success. There are several reasons for employing this supply system with all our CCS students:
- This system is simple and cost effective for families
- This system is less wasteful: non-consumable supplies like scissors and rulers are carried over from year-year. Any unused consumables are also carried over. Our hope/belief is that carried over consumable and non-consumable supplies will bring the price of supplies down to the lowest possible cost to families in future years (Rising costs/inflation impact this, however).
- This system allows teachers to purchase the desired supplies that they feel they will need to best teach/organize their classes.
Over the past three years, the BC government has provided affordability funding to bring down the cost of supplies for families. Unfortunately, there is currently no anticipated affordability funding coming for the 2025-26 school year.
When school commences in September, our classroom teachers and our school office will be asking families to pay $50/student attending CCS for their school supplies. Different methods of payment will be made possible. We encourage families who may be experiencing any financial challenges to please reach out to us so that we can help.
There are certain supplies for certain grades that this $50 total does not cover, including:
Grade 8:
- Students/families may bring their own 5-subject binder should they want to, but this is not required and will be provided for anyone needing it.
Grade 9:
- Students/families may bring their own 5-subject binder should they want to, but this is not required and will be provided for anyone needing it.
- Scientific calculators. We asked our teachers to provide some suggestions for families for purchasing scientific calculators:
- Amazon ($16)
- Amazon ($24)
- Staples ($26)
Thanks community!
