Helliwell Park Restorative Planting Field Trip for Gr. 5 – 7 students
Forms will be sent home on Monday, and will need to be returned by Wednesday.
Supervising Adults: Judi Ayers (Classroom Teacher), Natural History Stewards, BC Parks representatives, Parent Volunteers
Destination and Nature of Activity: Annual restorative planting session at Helliwell Park
Transportation: First Student bus charters. Our Hornby school bus will transport students and teachers to and from Helliwell Park.
Educational Objectives: Environmental Outdoor Learning, Place Based Learning, Social Responsibility, Science
Possible Risks: injury consistent with risks of being outside (e.g. trip/fall, trees/branches, etc.). Injuries resulting from motor vehicle incidents (parking lot/accident/etc.)
Travel Itinerary:
12:45pm – Board the bus at the Hornby Island Community School
1pm – Arrive at the parking lot at Helliwell Park, walk to the restoration site with supervisors
3pm – Board the bus at Helliwell Park
3:15pm – Arrive at the school in time for dismissal
If during instructional hours, alternate activity provided for non-participating students:
Remaining at school with primediate group.
