Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)

About PAC

In British Columbia, the 1989 School Act established the right of parents to create a Parent Advisory Council. The purpose of the PAC is to support and promote the involvement of parents in the formal education of their children.

WHO?

The PAC is a registered non-profit organization composed of parents of children registered in the school. ALL parents are voting members and are welcome to attend any or all of the school’s PAC meetings. The PAC is recognized by the Ministry of Education and the School Board as the official voice of parents at Royston Elementary. The principal attends meetings to provide a report on school activities, and there is a standing invitation to staff members and the elected school trustee.

HOW?

The PAC usually meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm in Royston Elementary’s Tech Room near the front doors. The PAC considers school issues of concern to parents, and to organize events, activities and programs intended to enhance the educational climate and community spirit of Royston Elementary. Minutes of these meetings are posted on this page (see below). Each May a new Executive is elected for the next school year. We hope as many parents as possible can join us.

Childcare may be arranged if requested ahead of time.

In regard to individual concerns, the role of the PAC is to advise the parent on how to present her/his concern and to ensure that there is an appropriate procedure to hear about individual concerns or complaints at the school as well as at the school district level.
