Charter of Rights and Responsibilities

Guarantee of Rights and Responsibilities: The G.P. Vanier Senior Secondary School Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and responsibilities set out in this document as can be justified in a free and democratic school.

  1. Every individual has the right to learn. Every individual has the responsibility to allow others to learn.
  2. Every individual has the responsibility to treat G.P. Vanier Senior Secondary School as a community where all individuals can freely express their own uniqueness and distinctiveness.
  3. Every individual has the right to be respected and to be treated with dignity. Every individual has the responsibility to respect the dignity and individuality of others.
  4. Every individual has the right to freedom from physical or emotional invasion of their personal space. Every individual has the responsibility to not invade, physically or emotionally, the space of others.
  5. Every individual has the right to a clean, healthy environment. Every individual has the responsibility to contribute to a clean, healthy environment.
  6. Every individual has the right to his or her own privacy. Every individual has the responsibility to respect the privacy of all others.
  7. Every student has the right to be treated with respect by his or her teacher. Every student has the responsibility to treat his or her teacher with respect.
  8. Every individual at G.P. Vanier Senior Secondary School has the responsibility and obligation to deal in a positive manner with any infringement of this charter.

For the purposes of the G.P. Vanier Senior Secondary School Charter, the following definitions apply:

Individual:

Is defined as a student, a staff member of School District #71, and visitors to G.P. Vanier.

Jurisdiction of Charter:

School District #71 property of Vanier grounds bordering Vanier Drive, Headquarters Road, the Island Highway and grounds bordered by and including the Smoke Pit. The Charter is also in effect at Vanier sponsored events off campus, as well as school buses and all bus pick up and drop off areas.
