Community Based Victim Services (CBVS)

The Community Based Victim Services (CBVS) is a comprehensive service that assists all genders, who are victims/survivors of sexual assault and domestic/intimate partner violence.

We define sexual assault and domestic violence as follows:

Sexual Assault:

  • Any form of sexual activity with another person without her/his consent. It includes forced kissing, grabbing, fondling and attempted or completed rape.

Domestic Violence:

  • Verbal or physical acts used to control a person by creating fear, isolation and entrapment. Abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual and financial. Abuse can occur in intimate relationships regardless of gender and/or sexual identities.

Climbing rates of domestic violence and Sexual Assault have been reported around the Province of BC amid orders to stay indoors and limit social interaction to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Locally we have had 228 referrals for Domestic Violence and 56 Sexual Assaults from Oct 2019 – Oct 2020.

As a community based support worker our role is to help the survivor through the impact of the abuse.

  • We offer one on one support.
  • We provide assistance during the process of reporting a crime.
  • Explain and clarify the process a person might be facing, from the investigation, to court if charges are approved.
  • We can support with accompaniment to the RCMP through to appointments with Crown Counsel also court orientation and court accompaniment if needed.
  • If additional assistance is required we will direct you to the appropriate community resources.
  • We can assist in filling out crime victim assistance forms and victim impact statements and other related forms.

It takes courage and tremendous strength to come forward. Community Based Victim Services are here to help.

We are located at Comox Valley Family Services 1415 Cliffe Ave. Courtenay BC.
