Friday’s Schedule: Day 4 H G F Lunch E FLEX

    • Any students interested in participating in the VIU Model United Nations conference Friday November 14th should give their name to either Mr. Sutherland (204) or Ms. Slomp (223) by this Friday.  This is a great opportunity to learn about the world, and to meet some great people.
    • First Math club meeting today, during Flex in room 207.
    • Indigenous concession meeting on Tuesday, Oct 14th at lunch in room 117 (Indigenous gathering space).
    • Ultimate Club meets every Friday at 2:45 on the back field.
    • The Brooklyn Creek Watershed Society is wrapping up its final year of stream restoration on the section of Brooklyn Creek that lies within Birkdale Farm, located very close to Highlands School.  For work scheduled between October 15, 16 and 17, we are looking for student volunteers who would be interested in help with planting of native species for a few hours or more!  No experience is necessary, as an experienced stream restoration biologist will be directing the work.  This is an opportunity to see how our Watershed Society is keeping the longest urban stream in Comox viable for coho salmon.  For more information, please see volunteer board in the career office
    • Girl basketball players (all grades), starting on Tuesday, October 14 at 7pm and moving forward, every Tuesday at 7pm, there will be girls drop in basketball time in the Highland Gym. If you are looking to sharpen your skills, meet new friends and have some fun playing basketball, make sure you come out. If you have any questions, please see Mr. McRae.
    • Any photographers in grades 11/12 who are interested in taking part in the Incubator program this year, please see Ms. Munro. This is a chance to work with a mentor and, based on a theme, produce one photo that will be published and included in an online auction. This is not a labor-intensive project and Munro can support you and answer any questions you have. Munro can be found in Rooms 116 or 216 or email at charity.munro@sd71.bc.ca
    • Gen Z and Climate Change: Generation Z consumers, born between 1997 and 2012, are forcing businesses to substantiate their environmental claims with hard data rather than relying on flashy marketing campaigns. More than half identify climate change as a top concern, and 73% are willing to pay more for sustainable products. This represents the largest consumer group in history prioritizing transparency over brand recognition.
