Monday, March 3rd Friday is Day 3 – B A D lunch C FLEX
  • Recognition of the students of the District Robotics 71 teams: The District 71 Robotics teams all qualified for and competed in the Vancouver Island Championships this past weekend. Teams 7842 Fractal, Dex, and Spartans all competed in the Tier 1 Championships. Our team 7842-Fractal (Isfeld’s Zane Radaweic & Laurian Blachford, Vanier’s Levi Milligan) won the championship’s Design Award and a Tournament Finalist Award, earning them an invitation to the World Championships in St. Louis in April. Team 7842 Wildcards (Highland’s Jack Wright, Isfeld’s Pavel Petrov, Vanier’s Laine Martin) and 7842 H (Highland’s Weston Burgess, Sean Peters, Matthew Wright, and Silas Wurts) ended up winning the Teir 2 Champions! 7842 Zidiots also made the finals. 7842 Violent (Highland’s Jacob Williams, Lake Trail’s Jacky Guan, Cumberland’s Osha Moon) won the tournament’s Sportsmanship Award. Congratulations to all teams!
  • Thanks to all the students and teachers who came out to support the Raiders Rugby tournament. Anyone who thought it looked like fun, come talk to McCubbin. We do not cut players and the team fee is only $100. Players – take a well-deserved rest day!

  • Are you a grade 11 or 12 student thinking about studying Science and Technology at VIU? Or are you a teacher wanting to provide your students with an opportunity to think about their educational path post-high school? VIU has programs in Biology, Chemistry, Math, Engineering, Computer Science, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Physics, Earth Science, Geography, and Resource Management. On Tuesday March 10, and Wednesday March 11, between 9 and noon, the Science and Technology Faculty will be hosting events where you can come and learn about these program areas. There will be activities including mini-lectures, tours, and hands-on activities in labs. There will also be a chance to connect with services like registration, advising, financial aid, and others.   • A reminder to all students age 15 and up that wish to volunteer at Island Health Comox Valley Hospital in the Step Up Youth Volunteer Program, the application process is now open until May 15th for next Fall. Youth in the program gain practical exposure to a healthcare environment and have the opportunity to explore a variety of health careers. Monthly online guest speakers provide insight into professions such as medicine, nursing, medical imaging, pharmacy, psychiatry, social work, and more.   • Calling all students interested in writing math contests: Any students interested in writing the BCSS Math contest (finals hosted at NIC), the preliminary round contest will be held on March 6th during flex block in room 112.   • All track and field runners are welcome to join winter training. Mondays and Wednesdays after school. See Mrs. Sulek in room 207 to sign up or if you have questions. Everyone welcome, all grades, all distances, all abilities. This is great training for throwers and jumpers too!
