*If you are a competitive swimmer and you want to compete on the Highland Aquatics team, there is a meeting today at lunch in room 212 – Blue house top left
*Senior Boys Volleyball you have your classroom session today at lunch
*Open gym Thursday from 7:00-8:00pm for grade 8-12 girls that are interested in playing basketball.
*Senior Boys Soccer – Thursday training will hopefully go ahead, and we are working on finalizing a friendly game against Vanier.
*Indigenous Education – any students who would like to learn about getting their Metis membership or funding that is available, please come to the Indigenous gathering space this Thursday (October 8th) from 9:00am – 10:30am
*Thinking of getting a degree in Child and Youth Care, interested in the new Hyflex Format that allows you to remain in the community while connecting with the instructors from VIU, they are hosting an info session on October 28, 2026
5 – 6 pm. For sign up instruction contact CYC@VIU.c or come to the careers office to scan the QR code and get some more information.
*Work BC is hosting a career fair on Wed. Oct 21st, 1-4 pm at the Florence Filberg Center in Courtenay. Some business that will be there include Costco, BC Hydro, BC Ferries, McDonalds, Mt. Washington, Hot Chocolates, NIC RCMP, 19 Wing Reserves and many more, if you are interested in attending please sign up in the careers office we will go 1-2pm.

*Students 14 and older wishing to take Food Safe, we are offering our first course of the year on Nov 19, 2026. Registration is on a first come basis, please come pick up a form in the careers office. Cost is $52 dollars
*Any students wishing to volunteer through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters mentoring program, please come and see Tracey in the careers office. This is a once-a-week time that you would go up to Brooklyn School and be matched with a little. This is a fantastic volunteering opportunity for your 30 hours and looks amazing on your resume. It’s a fun time to make a big impact on a younger student. Playing, reading, playing games to name a few activities.
*Gr 11/12 students – You can now access your careers course in Bright space. Due date is January 29, 2027. By the end of Q1 (Nov 13) you should be ½ way through the course. ISP students do not need to complete the course unless you are here for graduation. If you have any questions, please talk to Mr. Kuhnert, Mr. Miller or Mr. McRae
