Governor General’s Academic Medal winner – Ida Ma

The Governor General’s Academic Medals have recognized the outstanding scholastic achievements of students in Canada for over 150 years. They are awarded to the student graduating with the highest average from a secondary school, as well as from approved college or university programs. The secondary school medal is awarded to the student with the highest average in all grades 11 and 12 courses.

On behalf of the Governor General of Canada we are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2025 graduating class of Highland Secondary is Ida Ma.

Ida (Chae Yeon) Ma, came to the Comox Valley in Grade 9 and lived with host families. She worked very hard to succeed, even though English was her second language, which made things more challenging. Through her perseverance, she excelled academically and is now attending the University of Toronto, where she received a major scholarship.

Being away from home for such a long time is never easy, but with the support of her host families, Ida did exceptionally well and achieved remarkable success

We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
