School Logo Announcement
We are proud to share our new Highland school logo that was designed by Karver Everson, a former Highland grad. We will continue to use our current logo alongside this new one as we walk together in our journey of learning and truth and reconciliation. We are grateful to Karver for this beautiful logo for our school.
A message from the artist:
When creating the Highland logo, I wanted it to reflect its Kwak̓wala name, I’katsi— “place up high.” The image of an eagle perched atop a house felt like a powerful way to embody this concept, symbolizing not just physical elevation, but also a higher way of thinking, teaching, learning, and living. I envision this place, and ourselves, as vessels of knowledge—where we uncover truth, expand our understanding, and grow in ways that transform who we are and how we perceive the world. The design also serves as a meaningful reminder of our ongoing connection to local Indigenous culture and community, and the importance of working together for the collective good.
Karver Everson was born in the Comox Valley, BC in 1993. He is Pentlatch, Komoks and Kwakwakawakw. He carries the Kwakwala name Długwayaxa̱lis, this name comes from the Gigal’gam of the Walas Kwagułl. Influenced greatly by his family’s connection to his cultural heritage, Karver has always been eager to learn and uphold the cultural traditions of both his Pentlatch/K’omoks and Kwakwaka’wakw ancestors.
