PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS (From NIC website)
The Fabricator-Welder Foundation program offers pre-apprenticeship training in metal fabrication but is also for welders who wish to broaden their skills for employment in this Red Seal trade. Previous welding experience can be assessed by an instructor before admission to this program.
Metal fabricators build, assemble and repair products made of steel and/or other metals for use in a wide variety of manufacturing and construction industries and must be familiar with the properties of metals and know how to operate specialized metalworking machines.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Metal Fabricators can be more employable especially with a welding ticket as they are the ones that interpret the drawings and are involved in the developing, laying out, cutting, rolling, bending, shaping, of the metal for projects.
Past graduates have worked for companies in town such as;
Courtenay Spring Welding Inc
APPRENTICESHIP DETAILS
A Metal Fabricator apprentice must complete a three-year program including 4800 workplace hours and 600 in-school hours of training completed in three levels of training, each for six to seven weeks. After completion and achievement of a passing grade, the apprentice will hold the B.C. Certificate of Apprenticeship, B.C.
