Comox Valley Schools Welcomes New Secretary Treasurer, Carrie McVeigh

Comox Valley Schools is excited to announce the hiring of Carrie McVeigh as our new Secretary Treasurer beginning March 4, 2024. Carrie brings over 30 years of diverse experience in business administration across various sectors, including public education and healthcare.

Her work in the K-12 school system, notably with the Mission and Nanaimo-Ladysmith School Districts, has been marked by her collaborative approach and strategic planning expertise. Her innovative approach to leadership, along with a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, makes Carrie an excellent fit for our district.

Her commitment to truth and reconciliation, as evidenced by her support of and gratitude for, the Syeyutsus “Walking Together” Policy Framework in Nanaimo School District, aligns perfectly with our values at Comox Valley Schools.  Carrie stated that “Her work in these districts, including building various partnerships with Elders, Rights Holders, Knowledge Keepers and First Peoples, helped her to deepen her journey of understanding Indigenous ways of knowing and being – and is both humbled and thankful, for these opportunities”.

In her most recent role as the Senior Executive Director at Edgewood Treatment Centre, Carrie demonstrates exceptional leadership and a commitment to health and wellbeing.  Edgewood is part of EHN Canada, which is the nation’s largest private network offering mental health and addictions treatment through various programs.

To further highlight Carrie’s dedication to optimizing resources for learner success, it’s crucial to emphasize her ability to oversee financial affairs.  Her proven acumen in leading various departments, such as Finance, Facilities, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Payroll, showcases a comprehensive skill set. This ensures that supports are strategically aligned with the classroom, fostering an environment conducive to educational excellence.

Carrie’s philosophy of leadership is rooted in character, respectful relationships, and integrity. She is a leader who prioritizes lifting those around her, fostering growth, and developing organizational capacity.  We are confident that Carrie will be an invaluable asset to our School District, bringing her wealth of experience, strong communication skills, and her commitment to student-centered care and learner success.  “I am truly excited to work with the amazing Board and Staff of SD 71, to further our mission to achieve success for all learners, with emphasis on creating a community of diversity, inclusion and belonging”, said Carrie.
