Technology Services

Comox Valley Schools uses a variety of technology systems to provide services to students & staff and to communicate with parents. All of these systems meet the requirements of the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. All content is stored within Canada and Comox Valley Schools maintains full control of the data at all times. Each system also has robust security measures in place, and Comox Valley Schools has implemented additional controls where possible to ensure personal information is protected at all times.

MyEducation BC is a Student Information System that keeps track of student information such as attendance, course marks such as term and final marks, course grades, Individual Education Plans, and student demographic data.

The MyEducation BC software product also provides both students and their parents/guardians timely information about the student’s performance in the classroom. Currently at Georges P. Vanier Secondary, Highland Secondary, Mark R. Isfeld Secondary, and Navigate-NIDES, student and family portal is available allowing access the following information online:

  •     Student Academic progress (report cards, assignment marks).
  •     Student Class Attendance.
  •     All student course marks from previous years.
  •     Student details such as parent/guardian contacts, demographics, and progress to Grade 12 Graduation.
Comox Valley Schools uses Microsoft Office 365 to provide email services for students & staff as well as online document storage, and collaboration. All users are provided with unique logins and passwords for their own use. Comox Valley Schools only utilizes the services of Office 365 that are housed within Canada.

Students & staff can also download and install the Microsoft Office 365 suite on 5 personal devices (Mac or PC).

Comox Valley Schools uses the Scholantis Portal system for its internal intranet functions such as department pages, student portfolios, class pages, teacher pages/blogs. All staff and students have access to the portal. All data within the Scholantis Portal is housed within Canada.

SchoolMessenger is a communication suite used by Comox Valley Schools to communicate with parents/guardians. The system can send emails, phone calls, and text messages. It is used for attendance at a number of schools, to notify parents of unexcused absences.

Emergency notifications (e.g. snow closure) are also broadcast to parents/guardians using SchoolMessenger. Instructions for opting-in to receive SMS text messages from SD71 can be found below.

An app is also available to parents/guardians that can be voluntarily installed to mobile devices allowing messages to be received on a mobile device. Instructions for how to sign-up, download and configure the app on your mobile device, as well as accessing the platform on the web, can be found below:
