Inclusive Education
School Based Services
Supporting the educational, personal, social and emotional development of elementary students.
District Services
Comox Valley Schools has a wide range of district staff and professionals who work with our classroom and learning support teachers to ensure that all students’ diverse learning needs are met. Access to these supports is through the School-Based Team, a collaborative problem-solving team that works with classroom teachers to develop educational programs for students. School-Based Teams meet on a regular basis in all schools.
District Programs
Supportive programs for elementary and secondary students with diverse needs including giftedness, social emotional challenges, intellectual disabilities and/or Autism.
School Transitions
Transitions from one stage of school to the next one are a complex and ongoing process that involves many stages and phases. While this process is complicated at best for any person, individuals with special needs face unique challenges that require specialized considerations. Transitions are supported through the Transition District Support Teacher and the Principal of Inclusive Education. The three major supported transitions for students in the school district are:
- Entering Kindergarten
- Elementary to Secondary Transition for Students with Special Needs
- Life After High School
Provincial Resource Programs
British Columbia’s Ministry of Education funds a number of unique programs to help meet the educational needs of low-incidence students in BC school districts. Provincial Outreach Programs (POPs) provide community-based services for low incidence students in partnership with BC school districts.
Inclusion Resources
Families and school district staff may benefit from accessing a rich array of learning resources developed by our Inclusive Education Team.
Resources for Families
Comox Valley Schools recognize that families may need additional support over and above what the school district can provide.
