Vanier Theatre thrives at Provincial Drama Festival
Comox Valley Schools is thrilled to announce the remarkable achievements of Vanier Theatre at the Provincial Drama Festival held at Douglas College in New Westminster from May 2-5, 2024. Our talented students performed the play “Trap” with extraordinary skill and represented our school with pride and excellence.
The students’ hard work and dedication paid off, earning them a standing ovation and several prestigious awards:
- Outstanding Acting: Keira Braniff and Kit Joy
- Outstanding Lighting Design and Operation: Dawson Spain
- Outstanding Achievement by the Cast and Crew: For their innovative creation of the red-eye light glasses, and for truly scaring the audience
A particularly special recognition goes to Dawson Spain, who received the Spirit of the Festival Award for his wonderful attitude and contribution to the Festival Crew. The Festival Crew includes students from each of the schools in attendance. This honor includes the privilege for Vanier to perform the opening act at the 2025 festival, a testament to their outstanding contribution and performance this year.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported our students, understanding the challenges of missing classes and managing fatigue during this intensive period. Your encouragement played a vital role in their success.
And of course, this wouldn’t have been possible without the leadership of theatre teacher and director Lori Mazey!! Lori puts in countless hours working with our students to make these performances so special and we are very lucky to have her working with our students.
The Association of British Columbia Drama Educators (ABCDE) and the National Theatre School (NTS) DramaFest provided an incredible platform for our students to showcase their talents and gain invaluable experience. Congratulations once again to Vanier Theatre for making us proud!
