Feb 6 is new date for the SD 71 Careers session on District Programs and Opportunities

The Comox Valley Schools Careers Department has rescheduled the evening session on District Programs and Opportunities for both Trades AND Academic students going into Grade 11 and 12 next year.

Where: G.P. Vanier Secondary (Multi-purpose room)

Date: Tuesday, February 6th , 2024

Times: 6:30pm – 730pm – Academic Course Opportunities and Certificate Program Options
7:30pm – 8:30pm – Trades programs and opportunities

• Students going into grade 12 may sign up to take; one or more 100 level college courses, or a certificate program.
• Programs such as Digital Marketing micro credentials, Health & Medical Program Options, Health Care Assistant, Business Administration, Early Child Care Education will all be discussed.
• Various other district programs (District Camps, Work Experience, STEP program, Skills Explore, etc).
Trades Session (7:30pm – 8:30pm)
• Current Trends/employment for the North Island
• Semester long Trades Samplers (Construction, Transportation, and Metal) – primarily for Grade 11s and includes Math 11
• Train In Trades Programs (Carpentry, Cook, Electrical, Heavy Mechanical, Plumbing, Welding, etc) for Grade 12 students – the school district and the ITA sponsor the tuition at a college for a student completing a Foundation Program (ie Carpentry @ North Island College). Programs are 5-10 months long.
• Work In Trades – for students already working with a trades employer (cook, carpenter, butcher, electrician, etc) and receiving a $1000 award.
• Various other district programs (District Camps, Work Experience, STEP program, Skills Explore, etc)
