Celebrating Indigenous Brilliance, Knowledge and Ways of Being

Students and staff across Comox Valley Schools had the privilege of learning with and from Denise Augustine during a powerful virtual session in honour of Indigenous knowledge, stories, and connections.

As we approach National Indigenous History Month, this district-wide event offered an opportunity to explore the richness of Indigenous worldviews and deepen our collective understanding of Standard 9 and beyond. Denise—a respected Cowichan educator, knowledge keeper, and former Superintendent of Indigenous Education at the Ministry of Education—shared stories and wisdom that encouraged thoughtful reflection and dialogue.

Participants were invited to reflect on prompts related to storytelling, connection, and learning, and to share their insights through the Teams Chat. It was a meaningful step forward in our ongoing journey of Reconciliation and learning together.

Thank you to Denise Augustine for guiding us through this experience, and to all staff and students who joned in this celebration of Indigenous brilliance.
