Comox Valley wrestlers thrive at provincial championships
Comox Valley Schools athletes delivered record-breaking performances at the BCSS Provincial Wrestling Championships, held February 20 to 21, 2026 at the Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver.
A combined 24 wrestlers from across the district representing GP Vanier Secondary School, Mark R. Isfeld Secondary School, Highland Secondary School and Cumberland Community School. They competed against more than 800 athletes from secondary schools across British Columbia. This year’s event featured both the Senior Championship Tournament and, for the first time, the ONNI Grade 8/9 Junior Provincial Championship.
Vanier girls capture historic team title
The GP Vanier girls team led the way, capturing the school’s first-ever Provincial Wrestling Team Championship.
Team captains and Grade 12 wrestlers Kylie Cameron-Pattison and Jolina Healey delivered dominant performances, combining for seven pins and a technical fall en route to gold medals in their respective weight classes.
Inga Hollmayer added to the medal count with her second consecutive provincial bronze, while Aysia D’Allessandro placed fifth in a highly competitive division — a result that ultimately secured the team championship for Vanier.
The future of the program is equally promising. Competing in the inaugural ONNI Grade 8/9 Junior Provincial Championship, Vanier athletes brought home more hardware: Lily Martin earned gold, Maya Bisset captured silver and David Milanovich finished sixth.

Strong performances across the valley
Cumberland Community School was well represented on the podium as well. Lily Davies battled her way to a silver medal in the ONNI Junior Tournament, facing fellow Comox Valley athlete Lily Martin in an all–Comox Valley final.
Mark R. Isfeld’s Oscar Stehura made an emphatic statement in the ONNI Junior Tournament, winning every match by fall to claim provincial gold.
Highland Secondary’s Aiden Skea and Eli Richardson also shone brightly, each capturing ONNI Junior championships. The pair went a combined 7–0 over the weekend, earning two gold medals for Highland.

Perseverance and sportsmanship recognized
Tristen Beaudrey capped off his final high school season with a bronze medal performance. After being sidelined by injury at last year’s tournament, Beaudrey’s return to the podium exemplified resilience and determination. His efforts were recognized with the prestigious Bobby McKenzie Heart and Hustle Award, presented annually to one male and one female senior athlete who embody dedication, integrity and sportsmanship.
Bright future ahead
With only three graduating seniors, SD71 wrestling returns 21 of its 24 provincial qualifiers next season — a testament to the depth and strength of the program across the district.
The wrestling community extends its sincere thanks to this year’s graduating seniors for their leadership, dedication and the foundation they have built for future athletes.
Graduating seniors:
-
Mark R. Isfeld Secondary: Nathan Malouin
-
GP Vanier Secondary: Jolina Healey and Kylie Cameron-Pattison
Comox Valley Schools congratulates all athletes and coaches on an extraordinary season and a historic showing at the provincial championships.
