Long Range Facilities Plan
Comox Valley Schools is developing a Long Range Facilities Plan to help guide decisions about school buildings, sites and learning spaces across the district over the next 10 years. The plan will help identify priorities for future facility investments and will support long-term decision-making related to enrolment, educational programming, accessibility, sustainability and community use of schools.
As part of this work, the district is inviting students, families, staff and community members to share feedback through a public survey.
What is a Long Range Facilities Plan?
A Long Range Facilities Plan, often called an LRFP, is a planning document that helps a school district look ahead and consider how its buildings and properties can best support students and educational goals over time. The Ministry expects each board of education to have an LRFP in place that outlines management strategies for capital assets, particularly in response to changes in student enrolment and programming needs. It also considers the community use of space in schools and on school properties.
For Comox Valley Schools, the plan will:
- build on previous planning work and outline facility priorities for the next 10 years
- align with the district’s Strategic Plan, with a focus on the built environment
- help support future capital requests to the Ministry
- serve as an ongoing reference for the district as a whole
Why your feedback matters
Schools are more than buildings. They are places for learning, connection, belonging and community. Feedback from the school community will help the district better understand what matters most as it plans for the future.
Who should participate?
We welcome input from anyone connected to Comox Valley Schools.
Take the survey
Take the survey below from April 14 to May 13. It should only take a few minutes.
What happens next?
Public feedback will help inform the development of the Long Range Facilities Plan. According to the current project roadmap, public engagement includes a survey period followed by analysis of results, with recommendations to be brought forward through committee and board meetings this spring. The current timeline includes partner engagement in April, recommendations presented in May, and final board consideration in June.
