Comox Valley Schools staff take part in Indigenous Brilliance Day of Learning
On May 15, staff across Comox Valley Schools took part in Indigenous Brilliance Day of Learning, a district-wide professional learning opportunity focused on reflection, relationship building and deepening understanding through Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing.
The day began with a powerful opening session at G.P. Vanier Secondary featuring Carolyn Roberts, whose presentation encouraged reflection and meaningful conversation among staff gathered from across the district.
Following the opening session, staff participated in a wide range of breakout learning opportunities held at G.P. Vanier Secondary and at locations throughout the Comox Valley. Sessions explored diverse topics and experiences connected to Indigenous perspectives, culture, community and education, including many powerful examples of experiential and land-based learning.
Throughout the day, staff engaged in opportunities to learn together, ask questions, share perspectives and reflect on how the teachings and experiences from the sessions can continue to support students and strengthen learning environments across the district.
Comox Valley Schools extends its sincere appreciation to the Indigenous Education Department, the many organizers and support staff who helped co-ordinate the day, and the facilitators and knowledge sharers who generously shared their time, experiences and expertise throughout the sessions.
Indigenous Brilliance Day of Learning reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to learning, relationships and creating meaningful opportunities for staff to engage in professional growth grounded in Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing.
