No flush order in effect for Courtenay and Comox

Comox Valley Schools is advising families and staff that the City of Courtenay and Town of Comox have enacted a ‘No Flush Order‘ effective immediately due to the ongoing wastewater infrastructure issue affecting those communities.
At this time, the Comox Valley Regional District and the Village of Cumberland are exempt from the order.
Schools in Courtenay and Comox are being asked to significantly reduce water use throughout the day. This includes minimizing toilet flushing, hand washing and other water use that drains into the wastewater system.
To support this effort, schools and child care spaces will be designating specific washrooms for use and limiting access to others where possible. Staff and students are asked to use washrooms only when necessary and to help conserve water wherever possible. All rentals (internal & external) for this evening will be cancelled.
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding as local governments work to address the situation. We will continue to monitor updates from municipal and regional partners and will provide additional information as needed.
