Something Rotten! is a musical comedy that celebrates the world of theatre, taking a hilarious look at the creative process and the challenges faced by playwrights in the Renaissance era. With clever lyrics and toe-tapping tunes, the show promises to keep audiences entertained from the opening number to the final bow.
“We are excited to present Something Rotten! as our annual school district musical,” said Williams. “The students have been dancing, singing and rehearsing for months, and we can’t wait to share this silliness with our community.”
From the lead roles to the supporting characters, the students have embraced the challenge of portraying the fast, funny, eccentric, and loveable personalities that populate the world of “Something Rotten!”.
Grade 12 student Ava Bayers, who is playing the role of Shakespeare, quotes one of her songs saying that putting on a musical is “Hard, so very, very hard.”, but adds that “This experience has been so beautiful. There are so many different types of people doing this show, and it takes each one of us to put it together. This musical has so much heart, soul, talent, and passion.”
The artistic and production team is working tirelessly to recreate the vibrant atmosphere of a Renaissance-era theatre, complete with elaborate colorful costumes by Jane Burch, a student designed and painted set, and so much entertaining and playful choreography by Tamara Ryan.
Grayson Collins who plays the role of Nigel Bottom shares, ”I’ve loved being able to have fun with this amazing group of people, I am super excited for audiences to join us in this silly and amazing story in a show.
