Non-Instructional Day Scheduled for Friday, May 15

Comox Valley Schools is advising families and staff that Friday, May 15, 2026 will be a Non‑Instructional Day, following a decision of the Board of Education. Students will not attend school on this day, and all staff will participate in professional learning.

At the December Board meeting, the Board passed a motion confirming this Non‑Instructional Day, which will be fully dedicated to Indigenous-focused learning for all staff. The day is centred in learning alongside the Indigenous Peoples on whose lands we teach and learn, and in honouring the ways of knowing and being, histories, and lived experiences connected to this territory.

This dedicated time will support staff across the district to share and deepen their understanding of local Indigenous knowledge systems as well as other Indigenous ways of knowing and being. The day also supports ongoing Truth and Reconciliation efforts within public education and aligns with the Comox Valley Schools Strategic Plan.
